Commercial Electrician

Outline:

As a commercial electrician, you will be a member of the on-site maintenance team responsible for maintaining the electrical systems in a commercial building. Your responsibilities include performing planned preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repairing electrical issues, and obtaining quotes from external contractors for ongoing maintenance.

To be successful in this role, you should have a trade qualification in electrical work and 2-3 years of experience in the field. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work as part of a team in a Monday to Friday schedule are also required.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Performing planned preventative maintenance on electrical systems
  • Carrying out all lighting repairs and replacements
  • Developing and implementing plans for electrical repairs to minimize equipment downtime
  • Responding promptly to emergency breakdowns on the job site
  • Adhering to all health, safety, and environmental requirements before beginning work
  • Managing inventory of critical spare parts by ordering materials as needed
  • Working efficiently and effectively
  • Communicating with colleagues, management, and customers as needed
  • Supervising subcontractors on the job site to ensure compliance with safety regulations and overall contractor management
  • Participating in the maintenance team’s efforts to continuously improve the company’s operations
  • Working on multi-disciplinary projects as needed
  • Maintaining the company’s high standards for mechanical and electrical systems.

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

  • Certification and experience in testing emergency lighting systems (IS3217) is desirable
  • A trade qualification in electrical work
  • 2-3 years of experience in a similar role
  • Experience creating and following method statements, risk assessments, safe plans of action, and permits related to their work
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems is desirable
  • Completed health and safety training
  • Ability to work independently
  • Familiarity with computer programs such as Word, Excel, and MS Office Suite is an advantage
  • A professional appearance and demeanor suitable for working in a corporate setting.
