Electrical Services Maintenance Technician

A leading company in the facilities management sector is currently seeking an experienced Electrical Services Maintenance Technician to join their team. This position is based at a critical facility and involves maintaining essential building infrastructure and systems. You will be part of a dynamic team responsible for ensuring the smooth operation and safety of electrical systems that support the day-to-day activities of the facility.

About the Job

As an Electrical Services Maintenance Technician, your role will focus on both planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across a range of critical building infrastructure and electrical systems. You will also be responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient operation of critical systems including UPS systems, standby generators, HVAC systems, and building management systems (BMS). You will collaborate with subcontractors and other on-site personnel, ensuring all work meets the required safety and operational standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance on building plant, equipment, and systems in line with service level agreements.
  • Respond to and resolve any on-site engineering emergencies or reactive works efficiently.
  • Ensure all planned preventative maintenance (PPM) is completed, adhering to industry standards.
  • Manage the Permit to Work system and ensure appropriate controls are in place for safe working.
  • Oversee and manage stock of spares and consumables, ensuring secure storage and timely issue.
  • Ensure Risk Assessments and Method Statements are prepared for all tasks, adhering to health and safety best practices.
  • Supervise engineering subcontractors on-site, ensuring all work is completed safely and meets contractual obligations.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities, updating logbooks and client reporting systems.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients and on-site personnel, ensuring a professional and collaborative working environment.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures, as well as client site-specific regulations.

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Formally trained in electrical services maintenance, holding a Fetac/QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate Craft – Electrical, or City & Guilds 236 Parts 1 & 2 (or equivalent), including 17th Edition certification.
  • Experience in mission-critical facilities maintenance, particularly in managing UPS systems, BMS operations, standby generators, and HVAC systems.
  • Proven track record in both reactive and preventative maintenance, with a sound understanding of health and safety obligations in relation to electrical systems.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of building management systems, fire and environmental control, building control, and health and safety regulations (IOSH or equivalent formal health and safety training).
  • Experience as an Appointed HV/AP, with the ability to create switching plans and manage high-voltage systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and clients.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work calmly under pressure in a fast-paced, mission-critical environment.
