Job & Company Overview
Hall Recruitment is recruiting an experienced Temporary Senior Payroll Administrator to support our client’s Finance & Payroll team in Dublin 22 during a period of employee leave.
This is initially a 2-month full-time temporary assignment, with the potential to be extended.
The successful candidate will receive €22.13 per hour, together with a €2,000 bonus upon successful completion of the full two-month assignment.
This isn’t a junior payroll position.
There are normally two employees within the payroll function. One works part-time and the other is currently on leave. As a result, the successful candidate will be the only full-time member of the payroll team during this period and will take significant responsibility for the day-to-day payroll workload.
For that reason, previous hands-on Irish payroll experience is essential. We need someone who can become productive quickly rather than someone requiring training in Irish payroll processes.
Your Primary Responsibility – Payroll
You’ll be responsible for supporting the accurate and timely processing of:
- Weekly Irish payroll
- Monthly UK payroll
Your responsibilities will include:
- Processing weekly Irish payroll accurately and on time
- Processing monthly UK payroll
- Maintaining payroll records
- Managing time and attendance information
- Processing Revenue Payroll Notifications (RPNs)
- Maintaining benefits information
- Processing new starters and leavers
- Managing payroll changes arising from contract amendments
- Ensuring payroll information remains accurate and up to date
- Supporting compliance with relevant payroll and employment requirements
Accuracy is critical. You’ll be dealing with people’s pay and sensitive personal information, so the client needs someone who takes ownership of their work and checks details carefully.
Time, Attendance & Absence Administration
You’ll review employee timesheets and identify missing or incomplete information before payroll is processed.
This includes:
- Checking timesheets for blank or unexplained days
- Following up directly with employees where information is missing
- Requesting relevant sick certificates
- Recording absence information
- Logging gaps accurately within HRLocker
- Maintaining information required for group reporting
You’ll therefore need to be comfortable proactively contacting employees rather than simply processing the information you’re given.
Payroll Reporting & Compliance
You’ll assist with:
- Payroll reports
- Gender pay gap data
- Payroll documentation
- Audit requirements
- Financial and payroll filing
- Maintaining electronic and physical records
- Providing supporting documentation when required
- GDPR and sensitive employee data requirements
Employee Queries
You’ll act as a point of contact for payroll-related queries.
You should be able to communicate clearly and professionally with employees when answering questions about their payroll while recognising when an issue needs to be escalated.
Confidentiality is essential. You’ll have access to highly sensitive employee, salary and personal information throughout the assignment.
Essential Experience
- Please pay particular attention to this section before applying.
- Irish Payroll Experience – Essential
- You must have a minimum of 2 years’ hands-on experience processing payroll in Ireland.
- This requirement is essential because the successful candidate will need to take responsibility within a small payroll team during a period of employee leave.
- Experience processing payroll solely in jurisdictions outside Ireland will not satisfy this requirement.
- We’re specifically looking for practical knowledge of Irish payroll processes rather than general finance or accounts experience.
UK Payroll – Highly Desirable
- Previous experience processing UK payroll is highly desirable because the position also includes responsibility for a monthly UK payroll.
- Candidates who combine strong Irish payroll experience with practical UK payroll experience will therefore be particularly relevant.
Systems & Technical Skills
You should have:
- Minimum 2 years’ payroll processing experience
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Good overall Microsoft Office skills
- Experience using payroll and accounting systems
- Strong understanding of GDPR and sensitive employee information
- Excellent numerical accuracy
- Strong reporting and record-management skills
Experience with SAGE Micropay would be a strong advantage.
Qualifications
An IPASS payroll qualification would be advantageous.
A qualification in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related discipline would also be beneficial.
For this assignment, however, practical Irish payroll experience is more important than holding a particular qualification.
What Kind of Person Will Succeed?
Because you’ll be the only full-time member of a small payroll function during this period, we’re looking for someone who is:
- Accurate – You naturally check figures and take pride in getting payroll right.
- Responsible – You’re comfortable taking ownership rather than waiting for someone else to identify problems.
- Proactive – If a timesheet is incomplete or information is missing, you’ll follow it up.
- Organised – Weekly payroll deadlines don’t move, so you need to prioritise effectively.
- Confidential – You understand the sensitivity of employee payroll and personal information.
- Numerically confident – You’re comfortable working extensively with figures, spreadsheets and payroll data.
- A strong communicator – You can deal professionally with employees and colleagues when resolving payroll queries.
