Technical Facilities Lead

Permanent | Full-Time | Nationwide Travel | Up to €65,000 + Performance Bonus

Job & Company Overview

Are you an experienced Technical Services Manager, Hard Services Manager or Facilities Management professional ready to take responsibility for a national portfolio of commercial properties?

This is an exciting opportunity to join one of Ireland’s leading Integrated Facilities Management providers, delivering technical facilities services across a portfolio of high-profile retail locations together with an additional commercial client. The successful candidate will become the technical lead responsible for ensuring engineering services are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with contractual obligations.

Unlike a traditional site-based Facilities Manager role, this position is responsible for multiple locations throughout the Republic of Ireland. Regular travel is therefore an essential part of the role as you will be supporting site teams, reviewing contractor performance, meeting client representatives and ensuring consistent technical service delivery across the portfolio.

This role would particularly suit someone who has progressed from managing a single site or regional portfolio and is now looking to take the next step by leading technical service delivery across a national account.

Responsibilities

Summary

You will be responsible for:

  • Leading the delivery of Hard Services across a national portfolio
  • Managing specialist contractors and engineering service providers
  • Ensuring statutory compliance across all sites
  • Overseeing Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance
  • Developing strong client relationships
  • Reviewing service contracts and supplier performance
  • Managing commercial performance against agreed budgets and KPIs
  • Supporting continuous improvement across the portfolio

Technical Service Delivery

As Technical Facilities Lead, you will oversee the delivery of Hard Services across multiple retail and commercial locations throughout Ireland.

Working closely with operational teams, engineers and specialist contractors, you will ensure all Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance and statutory inspections are completed to the highest standards. You will provide technical guidance where required and support the resolution of complex maintenance issues while ensuring service levels remain consistent across every location.

A strong understanding of building services and technical facilities management is essential because you will regularly be making decisions that affect operational performance, compliance and client satisfaction.

Contractor & Supplier Management

One of your primary responsibilities will be managing specialist contractors and engineering service providers.

You will monitor supplier performance against agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), ensuring works are completed safely, on time and to the required quality standards. You will also review quotations, approve technical proposals and identify opportunities to improve service delivery and operational efficiency.

Previous experience managing contractors is essential because much of the technical work will be delivered through specialist suppliers rather than directly by internal teams.

Client Relationship Management

This is a highly client-facing position.

You will build strong relationships with client stakeholders across a national retail portfolio, providing technical advice, presenting service performance reports and responding professionally to operational challenges.

The successful candidate must be comfortable communicating with senior decision-makers and translating technical information into practical recommendations that support business objectives.

Commercial & Contract Management

Although this is a technical leadership role, commercial awareness is equally important.

You will review maintenance agreements, supplier contracts and service variations to ensure contractual obligations are met while protecting both the client’s interests and the commercial performance of the contract.

Working alongside procurement, finance and operational teams, you will monitor budgets, review contractor costs and ensure engineering services continue to provide value for money.

Compliance & Risk Management

You will ensure all facilities services comply with current legislation, statutory maintenance requirements and internal governance procedures.

This includes maintaining accurate maintenance records, supporting audits, monitoring compliance documentation and identifying potential operational risks before they impact service delivery.

Strong attention to detail is critical as this role carries responsibility for ensuring technical services remain compliant across a large national portfolio.

Requirements

Summary

To be successful you will ideally possess:

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience managing technical facilities services across multiple commercial locations
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience managing Hard Services contracts or engineering service providers
  • Strong understanding of HVAC, mechanical and electrical building services
  • Experience managing contractors and supplier performance
  • Experience working with KPIs, SLAs and statutory compliance
  • Excellent commercial awareness and stakeholder management skills
  • Full clean driving licence
  • Willingness to travel nationally

Experience

Applicants should have a proven track record managing technical facilities services within a multi-site retail, commercial, hospitality, logistics or customer-facing environment.

Experience managing Hard Services contracts, engineering contractors and technical suppliers is essential, together with a strong understanding of Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance and statutory compliance.

Candidates who have previously managed regional or national facilities portfolios will be particularly well suited to this opportunity.

Technical Knowledge

A formal engineering or trade qualification is advantageous but not essential.

What is essential is the ability to understand technical building services and confidently discuss engineering matters with contractors, consultants and clients.

You should have a working knowledge of:

  • HVAC systems
  • Mechanical and electrical building services
  • Fire and life safety systems
  • Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM)
  • Reactive maintenance
  • Building compliance
  • Hard Services Facilities Management

Qualifications

Applicants should hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Business Administration, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Project Management or another related discipline.

Professional accreditation such as the following would be highly advantageous:

  • IWFM (Institute of Workplace and Facilities Management)
  • CFM (Certified Facility Manager)
  • CPM (Certified Purchasing Manager)
  • CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Management)
  • Equivalent Facilities Management, Procurement or Contract Management qualifications

Communication & Leadership

Success in this position requires excellent communication skills, commercial awareness and the confidence to influence stakeholders at every level.

You should have experience negotiating with contractors, presenting operational reports to clients and leading technical discussions that support informed decision-making.

Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities are essential.
