Job Overview
As an Electrical Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the operation, maintenance, and enhancement of cutting-edge electrical systems in a high-priority data centre environment. Your responsibilities will include ensuring compliance with both Irish and international electrical standards, managing high-voltage systems, and maintaining mission-critical systems to support data centre uptime and efficiency. You will liaise with staff and contractors at all levels, ensuring that maintenance and upgrades meet the stringent requirements of data centre facilities.
The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, particularly in compliance with ET 101 standards and high-voltage operations. Familiarity with international standards like ISO 27001 and IEEE 1100, as well as an understanding of redundancy systems, fault tolerance, and energy management, will be crucial. Those with transferable skills from roles in critical environments, such as power plants or industrial operations, are encouraged to apply.
Duties
- Electrical System Management: Operate and maintain electrical systems, including high-voltage systems, ensuring compliance with ET 101 and data centre standards.
- Maintenance and Repair: Perform planned, reactive, and corrective maintenance tasks to uphold system reliability.
- Specialist Collaboration: Supervise subcontractors and ensure their work aligns with approved procedures and client requests.
- Safety and Compliance: Ensure adherence to QHSE policies, including hazard reporting, safety protocols, and PPE requirements.
- Reporting and Documentation: Accurately report maintenance activities and prepare technical documents such as Method of Procedure (MOP) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Emergency Readiness: Participate in mock drills and review emergency operational procedures to ensure system integrity under duress.
- Vendor and Component Management: Liaise with vendors for M&E components and equipment specific to data centre operations.
- System Optimisation: Make recommendations for operational improvements and contribute to safe system design enhancements.
Requirements
- Qualified Electrical Engineer: A minimum of a Level 8 Honours Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 4 years post graduation experience or completion of an associated electrical apprenticeship.
- High Voltage Certification: Proficiency in operating HV systems.
- Data Centre Expertise: Experience with redundancy systems (e.g., UPS, PDUs), earthing and bonding, and international electrical standards.
- Critical Environment Experience: Minimum 5 years in data centres or similar high-pressure facilities.
- Communication Skills: Ability to liaise effectively with diverse stakeholders, including subcontractors and clients.
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with advanced electrical testing tools and energy management systems like DCIM.
- Proactive Attitude: Commitment to operational excellence, with a focus on continuous improvement and risk mitigation.
