Job & Charity Overview
Are you confident speaking with people over the phone and comfortable asking for their support for a worthwhile cause?
We are recruiting a Temporary Fundraising Assistant to support a charity during one of its busiest fundraising periods of the year.
This is a people-focused fundraising position rather than a traditional marketing role. A significant part of your work will involve making outbound fundraising calls to donors and members of the public, engaging people in conversation and supporting fundraising campaigns running through to the end of the year.
You’ll work alongside the charity’s Campaign and Community team, helping with donor engagement, fundraising activities and events while providing practical support wherever it is needed.
The role requires someone personable, proactive and comfortable picking up the phone. You’ll need to communicate naturally with different people, represent the charity professionally and be willing to contribute to the wider team’s fundraising activities.
Responsibilities
Summary
As Temporary Fundraising Assistant, you will:
- Make outbound fundraising calls to donors and members of the public
- Speak confidently and professionally about fundraising campaigns
- Engage with existing and prospective supporters
- Support fundraising and community campaigns
- Assist with fundraising events and activities
- Maintain accurate records of calls and donor interactions
- Work closely with the Campaign and Community team
- Provide additional practical support during busy fundraising periods
Fundraising Calls & Donor Engagement
Telephone fundraising will be a central part of this position.
You’ll make outbound calls to donors and members of the public, engaging them in genuine conversations about the charity’s work and current fundraising campaigns.
You’ll need to be comfortable initiating conversations, explaining the purpose of a campaign clearly and asking people to provide financial support.
This requires confidence and resilience. Not every person you contact will choose to donate, so you’ll need to remain positive and professional while moving comfortably between calls.
Campaign Support
You’ll work alongside the Campaign and Community team during a particularly active fundraising period, providing practical support to help campaigns run effectively.
This may involve contacting supporters, following up on fundraising activities, assisting with campaign administration and helping colleagues with other priorities as they arise.
The charity is looking for someone who enjoys being part of a team and is willing to contribute wherever additional support is needed.
Fundraising Events
The position will also involve supporting charity events.
Depending on the campaign calendar, you may assist with event preparation, interact with members of the public and provide practical support to colleagues during fundraising activities.
You’ll therefore need to be comfortable working directly with people as well as communicating with donors over the telephone.
Requirements
Summary
The successful candidate will be:
- Confident making outbound telephone calls
- Comfortable discussing fundraising and asking people for donations
- An excellent verbal communicator
- Friendly, personable and professional
- Proactive and willing to take initiative
- Resilient and comfortable dealing with different responses from the public
- A strong team player

Communication & People Skills
This position is fundamentally about communicating with people.
You’ll need excellent spoken English, a confident telephone manner and the ability to establish rapport quickly with people from different backgrounds.
Previous experience in fundraising, donor engagement, telemarketing, outbound calling, customer service or another telephone-based role would be particularly beneficial.
Attitude & Teamwork
The charity is looking for someone proactive who is prepared to get involved.
Fundraising campaigns can become particularly busy approaching major events and seasonal fundraising periods, so you’ll need to be adaptable, dependable and comfortable supporting colleagues outside your usual routine when required.
Most importantly, you’ll need to be comfortable representing a charity and communicating its fundraising message professionally and respectfully.
