Outline:
The job of Data Centre Manager entails overseeing and managing the operations of a critical data centre infrastructure to ensure it meets business objectives in this facility management capacity. These responsibilities include ensuring compliance, mitigating risks, managing relationships, and leading a high-performing team to achieve business goals.
While there are other important skills such as leadership, vendor management, and compliance knowledge which are required for this role. A strong technical understanding of Data Centres forms the foundation for ensuring the successful and smooth operations required for this role.
Responsibilities:
- Data Centre Operations: Monitor the operations of systems and administer IT solutions to ensure the efficient functioning of servers, hardware, and other data centre equipment. This includes managing and optimizing the performance, availability, and reliability of the infrastructure.
- Client Relationship Management: Build a trustworthy relationship with clients by leveraging your technical knowledge and ability to get the job done. Understand their requirements, address their concerns, and provide excellent customer service.
- Vendor and Subcontractor Management: Establish and maintain long-term and sustainable relationships with third-party specialist subcontractors. Coordinate with vendors to ensure timely delivery of services and resolve any issues that may arise.
- Statutory Compliance: Manage statutory compliance regimes, such as planned preventative maintenance, to achieve targets and meet regulatory and legislative requirements. Ensure the data centre adheres to relevant industry standards and regulations.
- Technical Compliance and Resilience: Maintain high standards of technical compliance and resilience in the data centre operations. This involves implementing measures to minimize downtime, reduce risk, and ensure business continuity.
- Legislative and Working Practice Awareness: Stay updated on changes in legislation and working practices that may affect the operations of the data centre. Identify new opportunities or potential risks arising from such changes and take appropriate actions.
- Risk Assessment and Health & Safety: Interpret and produce risk assessment documentation related to health and safety practices in the data centre environment. Ensure compliance with safety protocols and create a safe working environment for the team.
- Team Management: Ensure the team is well-informed, motivated, and trained to efficiently and effectively meet service objectives. Provide leadership, mentorship, and support to a multi-disciplinary team of personnel.
- Problem Solving: Address day-to-day problems and issues that may impact the mission-critical infrastructure of the data centre. Analyze and resolve technical and operational challenges promptly and effectively.
- Performance Management: Manage and monitor the performance of the data centre to ensure that project scope, aligned data centre protocols, and business objectives are met. Identify areas for improvement and implement strategies to optimize performance.
Requirements:
- Team player who enjoys collaborating with people, resolving problems with resilience and a can-do attitude
- Previous management experience and strong understanding of critical environment operations
- Trade qualification is essential and or Data Centre Qualification
- Excellent knowledge of electrical and maintenance services
- You are a leader, negotiator and can manage conflict where needed.
- Previous project delivery experience
- Process management (Develop, review, implement, maintain) essential.
